Today's excitement

Seems there is a suspicious package at the LA Central Library. Fifth Street is completely shut down starting at Olive. Grand is shut down at Hope Place to at least Sixth. Many official looking vehicles in front of Library, including two ladder fire trucks, two regular fire trucks, and one paramedic vehicle. However, none of the firemen seems to be rushing around, so I doubt anything like a fire is happening.

They just backed up a van to the front of the Library, and the people put on flak jackets.

14:14 -- Firefighters from one truck are taking their hose towards the building. Slowly. Almost casually. Again, no one seems to be "rushing" so it doesn't seem to be an immediately pressing issue. I also only see one ladder company now, and three fire engines.
15:08 -- Our building people just confirmed via email that this is a suspicious package, and that the bomb squad is on site.
15:17 -- They are wrapping up the fire hoses, so I guess this is over. There is nothing to see here. Move along.

Link to location

I need to keep a digital camera at work...

We apologize for any confusion that may have been encountered by some of your employees and/or guests within this past hour. We had a smoke detector alarm go off on Parking Level P-5. Announcements to evacuate were made on the parking levels and stairwells (standard procedure is to make announcements on the alarm floor, two floors above, two floors below and the stairwells). Due to the situation at the Central Library and the impacted vehicular and pedestrian traffic around our building, this may have caused some confusion as to what was happening in our building. The situation regarding the smoke detector alarm at our building is all clear.

Another building email -- 15:08
Please be advised that additional street closures are taking place and are changing. At this time vehicles can access the building from the east via west bound 5th Street to Olive Street, right onto Olive Street, and left into the parking garage. Olive Street was closed at 6th Street and was re-opened. It appears that the City traffic controllers are trying to do the best they can to continue to have traffic moving along. The traffic has impacted the shuttle to the 808 South Olive Garage. A security officer is posted at the corner of 5th & Olive at this time to notify shuttle riders of their current options to wait for the shuttle service (ETA unknown) or they may choose to walk to the garage.

All egress vehicular traffic from our parking garage must make a left heading north on Olive Street.

Can you make the link to the location shorter, i.e., link to location. The current one doesn't wordwrap, and thus mucks up the display.

We got that one too (editted the post). They are wrapping up the fire hoses now, so I guess the excitement is over.

Time to go home!
