I remember the horror this caused network admins with the overload of ye olde fractional T1 and ATM pipes.

Oh yeah. And let's not forget when clients thought it should have updated and the service was down. Or all the application compatibility issues with it.

Coincidentally, Computerworld just published a "top 21 technology flops" article, and Pointcast made the list. Their conclusion, though, is that it was just waaaaay ahead of its time, since these days we now have things like RSS and similar functions (BBC's and CNN's alert services, for example).

Other wondrous items on the list include PCjr, NeXT and Newton.
