I am going to make this happen

Today is the first day I keep a food diary, as recommended by many places. I've always had problems with this before because, let's face it, it's hard to figure out exactly what is in all the stuff we eat and how to look this up. But I stumbled upon thedailyplate.com, which seems to have a good method of tracking items. And I realize this doesn't have to be an exact measurement. An approximation that shows the intent is just fine. It's something my analytical mind is just going to have to deal with.

So I entered in my coffee and cinnamon chip muffin. Gugh. That was already 576 calories and 22 grams of fat. And that's using less sugar than I normally do, so this coffee is fairly bitter to me. Looks like I should be investigating a new breakfast food source. I'll either adjust my taste to bitter coffee or eliminate it. Well, maybe I can earn the right to put in the ungodly amount of sugar that I want. We'll see.

The other odd thing I'm struggling with is how many calories I should intake daily. As I said, I am intending this to be a slowish loss, and I don't get much exercise. Both Kaiser and DailyPlate says about 2,450 calories a day, and Traineo has it up at 2,743! Well, Traineo, you just got overridden. I'm targeting 2,450 a day because it's the lower number. If I come in below that, even better.

Tomorrow will be a real test for me. Jen and I are going out to dinner with a group of people from the train to celebrate one of their birthdays. Eating out is something of a crutch for me, and something I will need to address anyway. I will have to look at the menu for a healthy alternative, and may have to invoke the 90/10 rule already - if you are good 90% of the time, you can slip 10% but no more. And forget about dessert.

2450??

Heck, I'm shooting for 2000/day. I think we're a similar build, based on your original note. (I'm 5'8, and right now about 195; I want to get to 170. I was as low as 185 before the holidays. At my worst, I was 240.)

Also, go buy a good (like $50 at W-S) scale. Weighing food helps, because, honestly, if you eat 1/2 pound of meat, that's an extra 1/2 pound you have to loose. Conversely, if you eat one See's candy weighing .5 oz,...

I've got to start back on the heats. The holidays suck for this.

I'm 6'0" and weight 261. I'm shooting for a gradual weight reduction, which is why the calorie count is so high. If I wanted to lose more, I would have that be a lower number, which is probably more realistic for me anyway. As things progress, all of these numbers may change to be more aggressive. But I figure this is a starting point and a good long term goal.

See's Candy. *sigh* I actually haven't had a piece in over a year. But in general, bad food is being eschewed from the house. My mom's fudge I love to death. It's rich and sweet and just so delicious. I look forward to receiving our Tupperware container of it every year. Yesterday, Jen took that container to work for others to eat, because I know I would eat it if it stayed at the house. Broke my heart, but needed to be done.

You are obviously a bit taller. My ideal weight is supposed to be 150, but I'm a bit squattier.

Don't overdo the denial. It's OK to splurge once in a while. Jen should have saved you a couple of pieces.

ObIcon: I know it's not, but every time I see that icon it looks like Jerry Seinfeld to me.

Yes it's a denial, but it is one that had to be done. There are still plenty of things at the house to eat that I shouldn't. =) But that fudge is so rich, I can usually only eat a piece... and there were A LOT of pieces there... and it was easy to get rid of.

Yeah...I think it's the long face, plus in the other shot, the dark background masks the hair.
