Hm.

So you know those irritating people who hang out at Starbucks or Panera Bread with their laptop, begging anyone and everyone to notice that they have their laptop out and are important while they are working on the Great American Novel?

I hope I don't seem like one of those pretentious people. But yes, I'm currently at Panera Bread. I'm stuck in the very corner with my laptop after having a fairly nummy sandwich. I was starting to get really tired on the way home from San Diego and stopped off for a nosh and the free wi-fi, since I've basically been offline all day today. I'll be heading home shortly...

...but first I need to finish this chapter.          NOT!

What kind of sandwich and beverage did you have there?
I think *that* will determine if you are one of THOSE people or not.

The Chicken Bacon Dijon on whatever bread they chose, and a small Sprite with no ice (and I didn't refill either).

Hmm... the dijon makes it a little stuffy but the sprite instead of a chi-chi iced coffee drink makes you...

SAFE!

No, the Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi would have made me a wussy boy.

He/she expects this type of humor from me. *nods*
Hope he doesn't leave his laptop at the restaurant...

See, I'm used to the people in Los Angeles with the laptops in Starbucks. There are definitely people in this situation that are BEGGING for attention. Not all, but enough that it's trite and comical.

There are plenty of others who are more along the lines of me or what you describe - using the WiFi that's provided and please leave me alone about it. But some people... It's so easy to sit and mock them without letting them know they are being mocked.

I'm sure you aren't one of those who sit there gazing around Starbucks while the laptop is open, waiting for anyone to catch your glance so you can instantly start typing away into Word while glancing from time to time to see if the other person was still noticing you, so no, I don't thin you are being pretentious.

(And that was a poorly constructed yet somewhat awesome sentence...)

But I'd bet you've seen some people like who I am describing.
