OMG! Billy Joel/Elton John Face 2 Face mini-tour in March 2009. Tickets for Honda Center go on sale Monday! Excuse me as I *SQUEEEEE!*
Movin' Out
Because I ordered tickets in the past to Billy Joel through TicketMaster, I just got an email to download "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant (Live at Carnegie Hall)" off iTunes for FREE. This is to commemorate The Stranger: 30th Anniversary. Of course, I already ordered and have the whole Limited Edition set, which I'll rip tonight, so the download is pretty much worthless to me, but the offer was nice.

On a side note, since I ordered that set back in March off amazon.com, the price has dropped several times. I ordered it at $39.97, then it dropped to $35.99, then $34.99, which is what I was charged. Teh item shipped Friday and I received it yesterday. Then, on official release day (today), they dropped to $29.99. Because I have this being tracked via PriceDrop, I knew about each of those drops and have requested a refund for the $5 difference, which has since been given.

* Beverly Hills Chihuahua? Seriously?
* Okay, so a simple comment about Roger Dobkowitz - Sorry, but I don't care. And a comment about Steve Beverly - Sorry, but I don't care.
* As you'll see later from the Twitter feed, I just selected my new work cell phone.        *waits for appropriate comment*
* Been playing with Twitter to do microblogging. Not sure if I care, or if I'll stay there. The integration with Facebook sucks. I may be microblogging on Facebook instead. Don't know or care.
* That darned cat has cost me a paycheck recently, and I'm not happy about that...
* I've had two baskets of blueberries in two days. Yum.
* paperbackswap.com rocks the house. If you sign up, use rialtus as a referral.
* I'll be in Rancho Bernardo Wednesday and Thursday. Woo...hoo...
* The Stranger: 30th Anniversary is already mine - 1 day early. Amazon lists this as 3 CDs and 1 DVD, but then mention in the text that it's 2 CDs and 1 DVD for a total of 3 discs. Gugh.
* XP SP3 is (finally) being released to Automatic Updates "shortly", along with a new version of the Automatic Updates client.

Ya know, Billy Joel's Turnstiles always strikes me as a weird album, especially in the middle. I mean, you get the airy songs like "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" and "Summer, Highland Falls". It delves down into more mellow overtones by the time you get to "New York State of Mind" and "James". Then.... BOOM! "Prelude/Angry Young Man" hits, disrupting the flow.

When I play the WAV files for this album, I always put "Angry Young Man" first, leading into "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" and leaving the rest of the playlist intact. Of course, I don't often listen to this album anyway. There's just something different about hearing the songs done live on albums like Songs in the Attic or Kohuept.

Quick note -- The album Songs in the Attic was made exactly for this reason. Billy thought that some of his earlier songs just didnt' have the right feel being done in a studio, so this album was produced specifically to record what he wanted -- the energy of a live performance. That's why the version of "She's Got A Way" which is popular has the applause at the end. It came off this album. The original was on Cold Spring Harbor.

I figure, if I have to be subjected to someone forwarding this to me, I should do the same you all of you. Congratulations. May it help you finally understand that joke from "Family Guy".

Does anyone have the cover of this week's 52 yet? I'm really curious what it is.

If anyone wants to hear a sneak of the new Billy Joel "12 Gardens Live" CD, coming out next week, go to this link and get a "sneak peek" of the two-disc set. This has ALL the tracks, in their entirety, so long as you can put up with the "Sneak Peak. Hear it here first." lady twice at the beginning of each song. This will be good until June 10.

In related news, my network admin will probably be killing me in 3...2...1...
17th-Apr-2006 09:46 pm - Five hypothetical questions
User
A hypothetical five questions, because I'm bored...

1. Why do you like Sports Night and Babylon 5 so much?
Well, Sports Night just has the great mix of drama and a high level of comedy that just ... works for me. I actually didn't see the pilot episode first, but The Apology. It was a powerful, compelling half hour of programming unlike any thing else I had ever seen, so I made a point to tune in the next Tuesday at 9:30.

As for Babylon 5, I backed into the show. I had seen the 2 hour pilot movie (The Gathering)when it first aired, but was too busy to get involved regularly with the show when it first started a year later. My parents and several friends had though. I finally sat and watched War Without End, Part 1, and again, I thought it was an interesting show, since I did remember seeing Babylon Squared.

With both shows, continuity mattered. Also, neither of the shows talked down to the viewer, and actually respected the viewer. In the days where the normal shows were Ally McBeal, and Dharma & Greg, it was nice to see something that more targetted to an audience that didn't need to be told when something was funny or interesting.

2. So what's the deal with you and comic books recently?
After Babylon 5 ended, and Crusade was dead before it started, jms moved into the realm of comics with Rising Stars. I was curious enough to find a comic shop near me and buy these, once a month. When he started Midnight Nation, I was there. Because my local shop decided to focus solely on hobbies, I moved to The Comic Bookie, who is a great guy. At one point, when in to pick up my minor pull list, I saw the cover to Identity Crisis #7, with the costumes of many very popular DC characters hanging on hooks. Well, I wanted to see what that was all about, so I bought the series. This was happening just as Infinite Crisis was starting, so it was a good time to jump in ... with some research. And from there, with help, I've also gotten familiar with some of the Marvel multiverse, specifically with Spidey and Squadron(s) Supreme. Why? Because the business of comics, like the business of professional wrestling, is interesting to me. And the stories take a little bit of digging and build upon each other. Remember what I said about continuity? ...

3. I can understand that. But Billy Joel? Are you really that pathetic?
Hey now. Musically, one of my earliest memories is It's Still Rock And Roll To Me off the Glass Houses album. I had no idea what the Miracle Mile was, or why you'd cruise it, but it had something to do with white wall tires, whatever they were. I was young. Leave me alone. =) Anyway, I heard another song that I liked... and another ... and then I got the cassette of An Innocent Man and wore it out, mainly to Christie Lee. And, as one of my friends has said, when I get into something, I get obessive. (See above and other various posts.)

4. Let's shift away from popular media and go towards the Internet. How long have you been online?
I was online before online meant the Internet. Way back in 1990/1991, I bought my own computer - a clone 386SX/16! My father had a 2400 baud modem for reasons I don't know, and I was able to use it. I BOUGHT my Prodigy starter kit (yes, you had to buy them in those days) at the Target in Highland and dialed in. I was a member of the LA News group, and eventually the Borg Club where I met [info]jelly_doughnut. At some point around 1993/4, Fraudigy increased their rates, and ye ol' Borg Club attempted to move to GEnie and failed miserably. But by then, I had discovered the Internet (CVADS021@csupomona.edu), alt.tv.game-shows and the rest, as they say, is history.

5. Serious question then -- Dick York or Dick Sargent?
Pass.

If you attempted to listen to the voice posts, sorry. I was trying to do phone posts of the Billy Joel concert last night, and it failed miserably. =( Guess I know now not to try this on Saturday.

Speaking of which... the ol' man's still got it. Can't hit the high notes like "An Innocent Man", but has everything else still works.

More later.

Happy! (Stewie bouncing)
We bought tickets this weekend for Billy Joel in Vegas on April 8, 2006. Now I find out that he will also be at Staples Center in LA on April 5, and the tickets go on sale at 10 am today. Guess I'm going to see him twice in one week. :) We're going to take some friends to the LA show -- they just don't know it yet.
2nd-Dec-2005 03:06 pm - WHAT? WHAAAAT?!?!?!
Happy! (Stewie bouncing)
Billy Joel is going to tour!

Why didn't any of you tell me!?!?!?!?!?!

Uhm, yeah, I won't be here April 8, considering this is probably my last chance to see the man live in concert.
6th-Nov-2005 05:45 pm - You got to be kidding...
Happy Place (Satchel)
So I just found out that Garth f'ing Brooks covered Billy Joel's "Shameless".

Jen attempted to play this ... song ... and I got to about the second or third lines of the songs before I told her to stop it.

I think I'm going to be sick now.

What a way to ruin such a wonderful and romantic song.
