Accoridng to the press, Pinky and the Brain will be back (in reruns) on Toon Disney's Jetix starting October 1 ... and it's already October 4! Zort! I've missed some of these!!!!

In other news, child obesity is basically the death knell for Kid's WB. The programming block was already weakened by competition from other networks like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. The final straw was that Kellogg's was force to pull their advertising "due to recent government pressure regarding child-oriented breakfast foods." In essence, the government is trying to control childhood obesity by forcing the advertisers to not advertise to kids. How about getting out there an mowing the yard and playing baseball instead of spending all day in front of the TV or computer, huh?

(...sex the fat kid...)

In yet other news, my copy of Zombie Fluxx shipped today. I believe this is where I say SQUEE!

DirecTV, Thomson Roll Out New Technology to Draw Apartment Dwellers

This is actually a really smart, technical move on DirecTV's part. It gets people get familiar wth the service, whcih they would probably feel more comforatable if/when they move into a house. They apartment complex doesn't have to deal with all the dishes, but would potentially have to deal with wiring.

I don't know the results yet, but I want to say this - I would buy a Cas Haley CD, and I would go to a midday Vegas show starring Terry Fator.

I do have to laugh though that I am watching this show because of a bad training class. I was stuck in San Diego in a hotel room with no TiVo, and I kept flipping channels looking for something to watch. I ended on the AGT and was semi-hooked. Had Jen watched it, and we've been enjoying the show from there.

So, I've got to admit something. never saw the movie Alien Nation. Good thing I have it sitting n the TiVo right now. Then, of course, there is the TV series which is available on DVD.

It's funny watching this movie in 2007, when it was released in 1988 and set in 1991. The future ain't what it used to be.

Watched Thank You for Smoking last night. Oh, dang was that funny. Not a joke a minute. Not even a joke type movie, but with the situational zingers, it was a great flick. I'd recommend it to everyone. Oh, and a bit of trivia -- with the exception of an old movie scene, no one in the movie is shown smoking!

And Monday's How I Met Your Mother will feature Barney on The Price is Right. Info found at How I Met Your Blog.

The first person to suugest that this news has anything to do with her hosting The Price is Right will learn very quickly the power of the Blue Felt ThingeeTM.

So I decided to take a chance again and watched two shows that several people on my friends list rave about -- "The Office" and "Scrubs".

Remind me again why they are considered funny? I just don't see it.

The LA Times sent out an insert with the Sunday paper stating they would be discontinuing their TV Times as part of the Sunday paper, unless you opted in for free. Presumably, the LA Times did some sort of focus group or survey, and found out that most people don't use this paper guide anymore, and the cost of giving it to everyone versus only to those subscribers that want it pushed the decision to drop this by default. My pessimistic nature says that it will be free for now. But it shows how the tide it turning. Gone are the days when you had to have a TV Guide or local paper guide in order to know when anything was on. Enter the days of on-screen guides, PVRs, and Internet based listings.

Ironically, this leads me to a point -- I forgot that "The Amazing Race" was on last night, but thankfully, TiVo has it waiting for me. Oh, and for nyone who likes "Psych", it's been renewed for a second season. And George Duran of "Ham on the Street" made a funny in his blog, as syndicated here on LJ. Sure wish Alton Brown still kept a blog.

Not sure if anyone needs an external USB 2.0 hard drive or not, but here's a fairly good deal for a 160GB -- $57.95 shipped after rebate. Oh, and amazon.com has a sale on Harmony remote controls right now. Go. Get one now. Go on. I'll wait.

The Santa Ana winds have picked up over the weekend, resulting in me being down for the count on Sunday with an allergy/sinus headache. Took one of my "good" pills this morning, and that seemed to help. I can't take these at night because they make me jittery and therefore I can't sleep. Of course, I already couldn't sleep last night because of said headache, so I'm in a world of hurt today.

I did pick up The Death of Superman, World Without Superman, and The Return of Superman this weekend. Never read any of these stories, and thought I should finally get to them. I also picked up Dan Meltzer's The Millionaires and The Zero Game in hardcover for $3.33 each. Wasn't so fortunate on the pricing for Shadow of the Giant, which I am SO looking forward to reading.

Uhm, yeah. I suppose I should get lunch, since it's now 1 pm.

EDIT: Had I just waited for one more song to go through on the XM Radio, I would have said I was listening to Baha Men - Who Let the Dogs Out? *snerk*

I really wish they wouldn't use the theme to "The American President" for the In Memorium segment of the Emmys. It's such a good song to make an uplifting point, and using it for this segment just breaks my heart every time.

If you are in the Eastern or Central time zones, Fox is planning to start the shows twenty minutes late due to the President's national address.
17th-Apr-2006 09:46 pm - Five hypothetical questions
User
A hypothetical five questions, because I'm bored...

1. Why do you like Sports Night and Babylon 5 so much?
Well, Sports Night just has the great mix of drama and a high level of comedy that just ... works for me. I actually didn't see the pilot episode first, but The Apology. It was a powerful, compelling half hour of programming unlike any thing else I had ever seen, so I made a point to tune in the next Tuesday at 9:30.

As for Babylon 5, I backed into the show. I had seen the 2 hour pilot movie (The Gathering)when it first aired, but was too busy to get involved regularly with the show when it first started a year later. My parents and several friends had though. I finally sat and watched War Without End, Part 1, and again, I thought it was an interesting show, since I did remember seeing Babylon Squared.

With both shows, continuity mattered. Also, neither of the shows talked down to the viewer, and actually respected the viewer. In the days where the normal shows were Ally McBeal, and Dharma & Greg, it was nice to see something that more targetted to an audience that didn't need to be told when something was funny or interesting.

2. So what's the deal with you and comic books recently?
After Babylon 5 ended, and Crusade was dead before it started, jms moved into the realm of comics with Rising Stars. I was curious enough to find a comic shop near me and buy these, once a month. When he started Midnight Nation, I was there. Because my local shop decided to focus solely on hobbies, I moved to The Comic Bookie, who is a great guy. At one point, when in to pick up my minor pull list, I saw the cover to Identity Crisis #7, with the costumes of many very popular DC characters hanging on hooks. Well, I wanted to see what that was all about, so I bought the series. This was happening just as Infinite Crisis was starting, so it was a good time to jump in ... with some research. And from there, with help, I've also gotten familiar with some of the Marvel multiverse, specifically with Spidey and Squadron(s) Supreme. Why? Because the business of comics, like the business of professional wrestling, is interesting to me. And the stories take a little bit of digging and build upon each other. Remember what I said about continuity? ...

3. I can understand that. But Billy Joel? Are you really that pathetic?
Hey now. Musically, one of my earliest memories is It's Still Rock And Roll To Me off the Glass Houses album. I had no idea what the Miracle Mile was, or why you'd cruise it, but it had something to do with white wall tires, whatever they were. I was young. Leave me alone. =) Anyway, I heard another song that I liked... and another ... and then I got the cassette of An Innocent Man and wore it out, mainly to Christie Lee. And, as one of my friends has said, when I get into something, I get obessive. (See above and other various posts.)

4. Let's shift away from popular media and go towards the Internet. How long have you been online?
I was online before online meant the Internet. Way back in 1990/1991, I bought my own computer - a clone 386SX/16! My father had a 2400 baud modem for reasons I don't know, and I was able to use it. I BOUGHT my Prodigy starter kit (yes, you had to buy them in those days) at the Target in Highland and dialed in. I was a member of the LA News group, and eventually the Borg Club where I met [info]jelly_doughnut. At some point around 1993/4, Fraudigy increased their rates, and ye ol' Borg Club attempted to move to GEnie and failed miserably. But by then, I had discovered the Internet (CVADS021@csupomona.edu), alt.tv.game-shows and the rest, as they say, is history.

5. Serious question then -- Dick York or Dick Sargent?
Pass.
10th-Apr-2006 11:09 am - Las Vegas review in this journal
Vegas
Despite the best efforts of [info]msmcfeeley, [info]creativedv8tion and the mysterious Mr Bauer, I was able to keep my cell phone the whole time whilst in Vegas. Score one point of victory!

The Billy Joel concert in Vegas was every bit as good as the one at Staples Center. The set was basically the same excep that he played "Stiletto" in Vegas, and didn't go to the far two synthesizers. And I have to admit that it's very strange to go to a Billy Joel concert and have a person come out and sing "Highway to Hell", but it works... somehow.

More on Jen... for those that didn't listen to the voice post, Jen had a bit of a medical issue while there. She woke up at 5 am on Saturday with an bit of pain in her right eye. Irritated, she went back to sleep. At 8 am, the pain was pretty intense and the eye was fairly red, though there was no discharge. She woke me up and I said we're going to get medical help. While she got ready, I called Kaiser to figure out what my options were. Kaiser covers urgent care and emergency out of area, so we went to a "Quick Service" clinic, which billed Kaiser directly. Basically, something got in Jen's eye and she rubbed, causing a minor scratch on her cornea. It was well on it's way to healing, but the doc gave her some ointment anyway. As of last night, she's fine.

Traffic was a bear coming home. I really hate Vegas on the weekends. It's difficult to get there, it's too crowded once you are there, and then it's painful to get home. We much prefer to go up there mid-week, when it's less crowded -- and significantly cheaper to boot! Matter of fact, we'll probably go up in May to gamble and whatnot, since we have comp rooms available at one of the hotels. Probably take in a bigger show. Maybe Avenue Q before it leaves Wynn.

Meanwhile, back at the Batcave... watched West Wing last night. I understand why Leo's death was glossed over for the bigger picture of the election, and that next week will be all-Leo, all the time, but still.
