I'm performing a DOD wipe of my work computer! Nothing incriminating on it, but I don't want people to poke at it either.

This list is more for me than you, because I want to make sure I have this list somewhere. I thought it might be an interesting look at what I have installed though. This doesn't include standard software for my company, like the antivirus software, which are on my machine automagically upon reimage. NOTE: Some of the links are to web pages though I have the install with is licensed. Items with a * mean I have a local install source.

Not sure yet what this will mean for me. Being in the regulated utilities and the major thrust of this acquisition being the unregulated storage, it may not be much. however, there is a utilitiy involved, there may be a shakeup -- or not. I have no idea if that utilitiy company is regulated, by whom, what the rules are, etc. I can see them still being a different arm of the company apart from the two California regulated utilities with a different management structure. NOTE: That's supposition on my part, not fact.

If we do try to integrate their utility with the existing, at least for infrastructure, it'll be interesting. I have no insight into what they have currently or how much of a struggle this may be.

I had to let someone go today. It's part of the job, but that doesn't make it any easier.

* Beverly Hills Chihuahua? Seriously?
* Okay, so a simple comment about Roger Dobkowitz - Sorry, but I don't care. And a comment about Steve Beverly - Sorry, but I don't care.
* As you'll see later from the Twitter feed, I just selected my new work cell phone.        *waits for appropriate comment*
* Been playing with Twitter to do microblogging. Not sure if I care, or if I'll stay there. The integration with Facebook sucks. I may be microblogging on Facebook instead. Don't know or care.
* That darned cat has cost me a paycheck recently, and I'm not happy about that...
* I've had two baskets of blueberries in two days. Yum.
* paperbackswap.com rocks the house. If you sign up, use rialtus as a referral.
* I'll be in Rancho Bernardo Wednesday and Thursday. Woo...hoo...
* The Stranger: 30th Anniversary is already mine - 1 day early. Amazon lists this as 3 CDs and 1 DVD, but then mention in the text that it's 2 CDs and 1 DVD for a total of 3 discs. Gugh.
* XP SP3 is (finally) being released to Automatic Updates "shortly", along with a new version of the Automatic Updates client.

Huh. Here's a link to our press release on this. Here is the overall ComputerWorld article, and here is the specific entry for SDG&E.

(For the record, because I don’t live in the service territory, I don’t get the 25% discount, but instead I get two extra vacation days every year.)

So work has been particularly stressful since Tuesday for reasons I can not divuldge. As a result, I have found myself looking longingly at that chocolate cake, and thinking about In-N-Out Burgers, and ... So this confirms to me that I deal with stress by eating. Not just eating, but eating very unhealthy things. I will note, however, that I haven't given into the temptation to actually eat any of these things that are bad for me. I'm been sticking with things like apples and whatnot. It's the most frustrating thing, which then adds to my stress levels. GUGH. I have also noticed that, while I am eating the good things like apples, I'm eating a lot more of them. Not good, but could be so much worse.

Now I need to figure out when I'm going to rebuild the laptop...

Music - All files re-FLACed, and 5,660 of 7,204 have the album art in the FLAC file now. I wrote a script that ran on the old desktop to re-FLAC the files, and I literally have three computers that I'm adding album art on (old desktop, my laptop, and Jen's laptop). After this, I start the conversion to Apple Lossless. I should be able to have the old computer whir away at that all week. Of course, I'll have to modify the script to move the new files over to the other share. *sigh*

Weight - Holding steady, but today have been a royal pain. I've been hungry all. day. long. I don't know what's going on, but this sucks bad, because I really want to just get a Double Double or something.

Work - Eh. I blew a virtual server up yesterday, and will have it back Monday. And I really really hate Java.

Apart from that... I got nothin'.

Those of you whom are on my friends list may remember a post I made back in Semptember about applying for a lead position in my group. At the time, this was a net-new position, meaning that there would be a new body coming into the group, or a new body to fill behind anyone who got a promotion. I haven't talked much (okay, at all) about this here, because there were other considerations that needed to be made.

Well, this week I'm in San Diego for a training class, and staying at the lovely hotel. BORING. Anyway, the boss wanted to meet with me for dinner yesterday, and I figured it was related to this job opening. Mind you, since the interview time, there was a hiring freeze put into place. Well, the meeting was making sure I was still interested, given that some factors have changed. The big factor is, frankly, that the hiring freeze changed this from a net-new position to a promotion only if I were to get the job. No new body, which we really need. Well, since she was paying for dinner and all, I thought it'd only be right to say I was still interested.

Tonight she called to formally offer me the position.

So now I'm the Desktop Engineering Lead, effective December 2. Yeah, I aparently got the job before it was offered to me, but that also means one additional pay period with the new salary, so I can handle that.

Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

Ya know, David Paymer is an entirely underrated, excellent actor.

Oh, and "Studio 60" got a pickup for at least three more episodes beyond the original 13.

Went into work yesterday, and went home on the 11:20 train. These allergies are going to be the death of me yet.

Don't forget to change your clocks if relevant.
