On this day in history....

1812 -- Detroit was surrendered to the British during the War of 1812. I'm still trying to figure out why we fought and got control of that place back....
1863 -- Emancipation Proclaimation signed. It seems a wonder to me that this got so much interest. Seriously, it said that all slaves in the Confederacy were free. Lincoln had no say in the Confederacy, so in essence, the paper was worthless...
1896 -- The roller coaster is patented. It's been up and down ever since...
1930 -- Frank Gifford and Robert Culp born. I spy, with my little eye, womanizers and sidekicks. Oh my!
1935 -- Julie Newmar born. Thanks for everything.
1936 -- Anita Gillette born. But I'll take a Bic disposable...
1953 -- Kathie Lee Epstien (Gifford) born. So... they have the same birthday? Does anyone else find this really weird?
1958 -- Madonna born. Sex and music would never be the same again.
1977 -- Elvis Presley dies. And what a way to go, too...
1985 -- The last episode of The Dukes of Hazard airs, while Madonna and Sean Penn also get married on this date. Sex would never be the same again...
1992 -- I burned my foot at El Pollo Loco. I ended up with mostly second degree burn with a speck of third. Was out of work for three weeks, getting more money off of worker's comp than when I worked. Go figure!

Ah-ha! I knew that, but couldn't think of a wise-ass comment about it this morning. Huzzah, Mr. Mike!
