So it's raining in SoCal again. My neighbor's kids, ages ranging from about 6 to early teens, are out running around, splashing in puddles, and generally having a ball in the rain. I notice this as I'm inside, warm and comfortable, looking out my front window.

At what time did I lose my innocence and become an adult? When did I leave behind that child who would throw his jacket in the air when the Santa Ana winds blew, just to see how far it would go? When did I decide that the best course of action was to stay inside and be dry?

I suspect it happened about the time you got your first paying job. That's about when it happened to me, I think. Ah well, if the world didn't have adults, the children wouldn't have anyone to have their hot chocolate ready for them when they came in from the snow. (Yeah, I know, you've just got rain, but there was snow where I grew up.)

Ditto what renaissancegeek said.

We're not getting any until Sunday.

(Rain, that is. I'm glad I reread that before I posted.)

Pre-emptively cutting off any smart-ass remark by me?

Yeah, I hate being a grown up!
