Help my father

This involves Geocaching. If you don't know what that is, then feel free to move along...

My dad recently bought a GPS (Garmin GPSMAP60CS). He's now trying to do things off the geocaching.com site. Aparently, he is a free member there, which limits his ability ot do things. His ideal endpoint would be to get the information from severla of the caches onto his GPS in one fell swoop, and preferrably without paying for the site membership.

That being said, he goes to the cache individually, and downloads the LOC Waypoint file associated with it. However, this LOC file is not one that his GPS will recognize, so he has to do some conversion to a GPX file format. So question numbers 1 and 2 are 1) Does this sound right to you, and 2) Do you know of a tool that will do this?

There is confusion on my part on if tihs GPX file format is a restriction of the device or of the synchronization software. He has MapSource, which came with the device. He also has EasyGPS. Ideally, in my mind, it would be nice if the synchronization software natively took the LOC file and did what it needed to in order to get the data into the GPS. Am I barking up the wrong tree there?

Also, anyone know about the avatars on geocaching.com's website? Aparently, my dad is also having some issue there and it's preventing him from posting to the forums. *shrug* I got nothing about this, so I thought I'd throw it out there too. I just created a free user account, but it takes 24 hours before the forums get activated so...

Help?

Geocaching, eh? I was just thinking about heading out this afternoon.

Anyway, there is one workaround: He could always enter the waypoints manually into the receiver. It's what I do, as I am also a free member.

EasyGPS is a nice piece of software, and I do admit it would make my life easier, but once I'm used to entering the stuff by hand, dammit, that's how I continue to do it. I'm a low-volume cacher, not one of those folks that enters dozens or hundreds of caches at a time. THAT would be tedious by hand.

Yeah, what jumbach said. I use EasyGPS and really like it.

My boyfriend and I used to go Geocaching, and he entered all the waypoints manually. Like jumbach said, once you get used to doing that, it kind of becomes habit.

What's going on with the avatar thing? He should be able to post without one...I can understand if he's confused about how to add an avatar, though. The forums are hosted on a completely different site, but they send you back to geocaching.com to change your avatar. It's weird.

(By the way, I stopped by because we have a couple of mutual friends. Mind if I add ya?)

Feel free to add me! I rarely make non-public posts, so what you see is what you get.
