Quick takes

Jen's cholesterol.  Jen called in for her blood test results today. I haven't mention this before, but in early March she went in for bloodwork due to a concern from the life insurance people. Our doctor's test showed that she had high cholesterol, and the doctor gave her two months to use diet and exercise to lower it. Otherwise, medication for her...

Anyway, her total cholesterol went from 253 down to 179. The HDL (good cholesterol) went from 70 to 42. The LDL (bad cholesterol) went from 148 to 122. Her Triglyceride level went from 173 down to 76.

Needless to say, she's rather excided... Guess the new diet actually worked wonders. All of her numbers are now in the acceptable range. w00t!

IBM and Firefox.  Rumor has it that IBM is backing Firefox in house, and that 10% of it's 300,000 employees are already using it. While the numbers are nice, I'd rather see a company that didn't have a bad track record on this. (OS/2, Notes, and pretty much any Lotus product prior to their purchase come to mind rather quickly. Sorry zarchasmpgmr...)

Comics talk.  I think I'm quickly turning into a DC Comics mark. A few months ago, I finally read Crisis on Infinite Earths. Yeah, I know it's 20 some years later, but I just wasn't into this genre then. Well, on it's heals I read Identity Crisis and found it intriguing. Now I started in on the Countdown to Infinite Crisis (WARNING: Link contains spoilers), which, naturally will be followed up with the actual Infinity Crisis. This whole thing is being called a sequel/followup to Crisis on Infinite Earths and is supposed to shake everything up in the DC Universe again. Okay. I'm there...

Of course, Marvel is also doing the House of M. However, I just can't seem to get into the Marvel Universe very much. *shrug*

TV Stuff  After tonight, there will be no original Star Trek series on television. This is the first time in 18 years, since Star Trek: The Next Generation hit the airwaves. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

TAR7, well, is over. When does TAR Family start again so we can get back to the fun? And when the smeg does TAR1 come out on DVD?!?! Argh...

TV upfronts are this upcoming week. It's weird how these seem to be very muted this year, versus the last few years when this was a big "tado" prior to the actual upfronts. *shrug*

LA TV News  So I go away for a week, and Johnny Mountain has jumped the ABC ship for KCBS. He had 27 years of tenure over at KABC, and just like that he jumps. And where is Byron Miranda going to go, huh? In my book, he worked a lot better with the team. Not only that, he was the winner of the 2003 Golden Mike award for "Best Weathercaster in Southern California". And now, he's likely to get the unceremonious boot out the door. Sad.

Good for Jen!
What things did she do? Cut out red meat and stuff?

We didn't eat a lot of red meat to start with, so that wasn't the big deal. Cutting out some of the pork products was more difficult. She also really watched her intake of cholesterol as well as trans fat. She snacks on low fat items throughout the day now, and gets a bit more exercise than she had before.

Good job.
Pork, huh. It's 'the other white meat' but I guess bacon doesn't count for that, huh?

Heh. We were kinda shicked that, for lowering cholesterol, pork is just as bad as red meat.

TAR1 DVD
I heard it will be released in July. Can't wait.

I'm already going through Amazing Race withdrawl. Just the other day, I drove near a construction site, saw a "detour" sign and thought it was a choice between two tasks -- each with its own pros and cons.
