Just got done watching Napoleon Dynamite

What the HELL were you smoking? No really... which drug and in what quantity were you taking? I watched this all the way through -- yes, even after the credits -- and I'm still wondering what the hell I was watching.

Sorry, but I have to agree with Jen when she said "Yeah, that was pretty much the worst movie I've even seen."

At least you don't live in any college campus in America where Napoleon Dynamite quotes/shirts run rampant.

Thanks for reaffirming my belief that I wasn't missing anything.

Alcohol, two fifths, and I did a line of Cheetos.

It's good because it's bad. And it won an award for positively portraying Idaho. Somehow.

It's just a cult hit man, which by definition almost guarantees that it won't appeal to the mainstream. The fact that you even bring up the question about what drugs some people were taking in order to get it, only affirms the fact that you are way overthinking this film. Basically, it appeals to some and repels others. It's not unlike "Pulp Fiction" or "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

True, this is not a "thinking [wo]man's" movie, but I will respectfully disagree with your opinion. For me, what was funny was how well the character of Napoleon Dynamite embodied the sterotypical dungeons and dragons playin-computer hackin-Jolt cola guzzlin-socially stunted nerds that abound in most high schools across the country. I also took great pleasure from the stuck-in-1982 Uncle Rico, who as a grown man, video tapes himself throwing that final touchdown pass. Oh, and lets not forget brother Kip who says to Napolean "Don't be jealous just because I've been online chatting with babes for the last four hours". That kind of dialog from a character twice as nerdy as Napoleon's, is well, humorous to say the least.

Just my insight to make a serious attempt to answer your initial question. =)

It's really one of those movies that has to hit you just right or it's absolutely stupid.

I mean, I absolutely hated Dazed and Confused, so I can understand why you didn't like this one.

That's how I am...I love Napoleon (maybe it's because it's the first movie to use a jamaroquai song that's NOT Virtual Insanity) but hate Dazed and Confused.
It's so bad it's funny. Like Mrs. Miller singing "downtown."
