Per Zap2It's overnight ratings recap:
At 10 p.m., the season premiere of "CSI: Miami" scored the night's biggest audience with an 11.2/17. "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" averaged a decent 8.6/14 for NBC but lost a significant number of viewers in its second half-hour.

Berman's numbers at mediaweek.com make things a lot closer.

I wonder how many people who would've counted didn't watch last night because they've already seen it elsewhere?

Hm. Good point, and might explain the drop off too. "Eh, I've already seen this one..."

It'll be interesting to see next week's numbers.

Yarrr, me hartey. I watched CSI: Miami last night, and let me DirecTivo capture Studio 60 so I could watch it in my bunk later. CSI was quite good, as was the Piratical Wench Swap on ABC at 9. [I did give in and rewatch the 7th Heaven finale ... it will be fun to see how they write themselves out of it... and The CW really hasn't been promoting 7th... during the show I saw the first and only promos for the 7th new season.]

Update: I watched it last night from the Tivo. Quite good; I think this may be one of the few shows we'll add to our season passes from the new crop (Ugly Betty may be the other one; we'll see).

I thought this was a much stronger pilot than the ones for "Sports Night" and "West Wing".
