Lord of the Missing

Shortly after dinner, Jen started to go around the house very obviously looking for something. I had to go upstairs, and came back downstairs to see Jen really focusing on the space in front of her. I ask what's wrong, and she starts crying. "I've lost the garnet." She refers to the garent ring that I gave her last Christmas when I proposed to her. We tore up the house, and couldn't find it. She knows she wore it today, because she got it from the cleaning solution to wear, since it matched he red sweater. That was also her last clear memory of having the ring -- putting it on in the morning.

It's currently quite ... chilly ... here in SoCal, with the lows hitting into the 40s. Between the cold and her weight loss, the ring might have been loose. She seems to think that she lost it washing her hands, either ar school or at Applebees where she and another teacher went after work. So we calls Applebee's tp save the trash bag from the women's restroom and head out there. Mind you, this Applebee's is near her work, which is 30 miles away, and now with the flow of traffic. Gugh. Well, we make it out there, after stopping off at Albertson's to buy some gloves. Jen went through each and every towel, but to no avail. There is no way to contact the school or the janitors, so ... well, basically, we're screwed.

Jen is not taking this well at all. She cried basically the whole way home, to the point that she has a horrible headache and miserable stomach ache. She came home, took some Advil, and went to bed to try an get away from her headache. She must have succeeded, since I can hear her snorig down here. I can't say that I'm not upset with her, but she doesn't need to hear that. She's beating up on herself too much already and doesn't need any crap from me about this. So I'm venting here.

That has to be one of the worst feelings ever. I had that happen once, only it was the whole ring. I felt horrible. Maybe you could surprise her with a new garnet?

Well, when she said she lost the garnet, she meant that she lost the garnet ring. The whole darn thing is gone. Missing. Disappeared. Not here no more. That's why she's beating herself up (still).
