Just another day

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
Picture it -- Dallas, 1963. A series of cars goes by, while some some guys wiht a suitcase enters a building. Minutes later, the cars are rushing by, the man is rushing to ta movie theater, and the souffle fell. Er... What was the question again?

2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I found out about it from my mom, who was crying. The reason, of course, is because my dad was up in Washington at the time and she was very worried about him. Obviously, he was okay...

3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
I was in first period in eigth grade. That was library for me, but most of my classmates were in PE first period. However, it was health, so they were in the library. Mr. Kelly, the librarian, rushed into room, and told me to get Mr. Young to hook up a TV to a signal and bring it out front. When we finally got it working, I was glued. I was in shock the rest of the week. My mom went to Las Vegas that morning to be with my dad, who was working there at the time. That night's Jeopardy! had a category about Space, and I remember making a statement about "What just blew up for $10, Alex?" *shrug* The things we remember...

4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
Point of order -- this was 10/17/1989. I know because it was my dad's birthday. We were having dinner at Chili's in San Bernardino and heard the bar go absolutely quiet, followed by an eerie amount of smalltalk. I looked at the TV in the bar, and saw what was going on.

5. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989)
Truthfully, and this is really sad, I don't know.

6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
This was a Wednesday. I had just gotten news that I was going to be promoted to Crew Leader as of the next day. My mom and I were in San Bernardino, on our way to Wendy's when MG Kelly broke the news on KODJ (or was it KCBS then?). Shortly later, they went to the CBS news feed.

7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
It was some weekday, because I was at work, fixing someone's computer, hearing one of the conference room TVs blaring out the news.

8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
Again, I'm sorry to say I really don't remember this with any clarity.

9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
A Saturday. My now ex-roommate, Nick, who is British, had joined the rest of us over at Gameworks in Ontario. We were partaking of the Daytona 500 linked game, and the worker who was moderating the game said to beware of the crash in the tunnel in case you ran into Princess Di. A few strange looks later and he mentioned that Di died. Nick went home and stayed glued to the TV all night that I'm aware of.

10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
Sleeping. I woke up to the news that no one knew what was going on.

11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
This would be the item that shouldn't be on the list... and yet, I remember it. I was at work, and caught whiff of it on Yahoo. *shrug*

12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
I was sleeping a little late that morning, because I was going to Monterey Park. My friend Robert, who I normally take the Metrolink to LA with, called right about 6 am. Jen answered the phone, and Robert wanted to know if I was going to go in, with all that was going on. Jen was befuddled, and I was just waking up. She told me to turn on the TV, since the remote was on my side of the bed. I did, and y'all know the rest.

Currently watching The Big Heist: How AOL Took time Warner. A little ironic that this airs today, when earlier today Steve Case announced his resignation. Earlier I actually watched Top Ten Bathrooms in Vegas on the Travel channel. You got to agree that the title is catchy...

Speaking of catchy, I've got some answers to people asking me questions. Poll closes at 11:59 pm Pacific time Tuesday.
missingdonut -- 42. Duh!
gaby723 -- Because they aren't men.
lambertman -- In order, The West Wing, 24, Jeremiah, Trading Spaces, Weakest Link (synd.), CSI (CBS), CSI (TNN), Good Eats, John Doe, Pyramid
jumbach -- I truthfully have not travelled enough to say, though I would say Ontario, CA is a strong contender. It's got pretty much everything, has decent weather, and still gets LA TV signal. =)
tomalhe -- 42. Duh!

BTW, what the hell is this crap? I'm thinking this is pretty much bunk. And if that wasn't enough, this should shock some people.
