Okay, survey time. Which do you prefer -- getting your toilet paper from the top of the roll or from the bottom? Comments welcomed.

BTW, someone was having issues with the cut tag here on LiveJournal. It's fairly simple. You put in <lj-cut text="Your text here"> where you want to start (obviously replacing the "Your text here"), and you close it off with </lj-cut>

And on that note, I've been interviewed by jumbach, and the answers are behind ... (this cut tag)

1. When did you know for sure that Jen was "the one"?
I don't know that I consciously thought suddenly, "Hey, she's alright. I guess I'll keep her." It's just something that kinda snuck up on me, where I can't imagine not having her in my life. Moving in together helped seal everything up nicely.

2. I know you ride MetroLink, but what's your opinion of OmniTrans, Foothill Transit, and the LACMTA, and why do you feel that way about each?
While I am a huge proponent of public transportation, I truthfully don't use a lot of it for local travel. I think I have only been on Omni once, when I was a kid and wanted to go to San Bernardino to see a movie at the Central City Mall. (Anyone familiar with the area just realized how old I am by that statement...) I've never been on Foothill Transit or LACMTA buses. LADOT is an easy way to get to Chinatown for lunch, but I would have preferred the Red Line myself. Crowds... euw.

3. If you were to start up "The Carl Network," to be broadcast during prime time on over-the-air TV in every market, what would your Thursday and Sunday night lineups look like? You have absolute power, and copyrights, etc. are not an issue in this theoretical world.
Wow... I've never been good at doing these. I'm going to make the assumption that cancelled shows are allowed. If you didn't mean that, well... too bad. =)
Thursday
8 pm -- The Cosby Show
8:30 pm -- Family Ties
9 pm -- Cheers
9:30 pm -- Sports Night
10 pm -- Coupling (BBC)
10:40 pm -- A shortened version of Match Game PM

The first 90 minutes ... well, why break something that wasn't broken? These three shows worked so well together that they ruled primetime in their day. I think that Sports Night (whose appearance should not be a surprise to anyone) could be a nice complement to Cheers, as would the BBC version of Coupling with Sports Night. Wrap the whole thing up with something that is light and suggestive...

Sunday
7 pm -- 60 Minutes
8 pm -- The West Wing
9 pm -- CSI
10 pm -- Law and Order

This is targeted towards the thinking person, who just might be home on Sunday night anyway. Hey, if Murder, She Wrote worked there for so long, these shows can do it. And again, I don't think anyone is surprised to see The West Wing... I tried to work in Babylon 5, but it just isn't a nice mix with the other shows on Sunday.

4. Is married life really worth it? Expanded companionship vs. loss of freedom: Would you do it all over again?
With the right person, yes. Again, I can't imagine Jen not being in my life now. She is my partner. Sure, there is a little loss of freedom. *shrug* It's not like I was out being a playboy or anything, and the loss of freedom shows a gain of trust. So yeah, I'd do it again with Jen.

5. What's your greatest fear?
Being old and alone. I only have one reoccuring dream that I can remember (I don't remember most dreams period). I am an old man (full on bald, hunched over with a cane... the whole bit) walking into Sizzler. Everyone there knows me and my order -- senior salad bar. I'm there, by myself, old and lonely. *shudder*

Many of you have heard me go on rants previously about McAfee's anti-virus "solutions". Well, we just got a message from our Microsoft representative telling us about this...

Problem

Applying the latest DAT file from NAI (McAfee) causes the Exchange 2000 Store to terminate and customer will be unable to remount.

Customers should be aware that the latest DAT file from NAI requires NAI's Hotfix 2 (HF2) prior to applying the latest DAT file. If the customer applies the DAT file without applying the Hotfix from NAI first, their Exchange Stores WILL terminate.

All versions of Exchange 2000 are potentially at risk although we HAVE NOT seen issues outside of North America at this time.

Resolution / Call to Action

Ensure all of your customers are aware of the issue.
Ensure all of your customers have the latest patches (HF2) from NAI prior to applying the latest DAT file from NAI.
Point your customers to NAI for further information.

Determining if Hotfix 2 is installed

On the version tab of the NAI console, the last three digits should be 677. If not, they are not running HF2.

... back to me now. Folks, McAfee has a horrible track record. If you have a choice, don't trust something that is system critical to them. Symantec and Trend Micro offer so much better solutions.

Bah... I'm off to bed.

So noted.

3. But where's "Alias"?

4. You'd do it again with Jen? Didn't you just do it quite recently? Aren't you still doing it? (No, you gutterheads, not that "it.") I liken marriage to religion: one either practices or one does not. (Or, come to think of it, to being a Jedi master: there is no "try," only "do" or "do not.")

5. Nail on the head, sir. Though in my case, amend it to "Old and alone and with a file cabinet full of scores nobody cares to play."

3. Never seen it. Seriously.

4. Quite. But I was answering the question, which was "Would you do it all over again?" Just doing my job, mate...

3. Gotta try it. It's great fun.

4. Understood. Letter of the law, and all.

3. I keep hearing that, yet it's still not hit the TiVo. I dunno what's wrong with me. The last couple of shows that everyone had high praise for that I wasn't watching were AquaTeen Hunger Force (uh... no.), BBC's Coupling (perhaps... perhaps... perhaps.), The Amazing Race (watching #4 -- jury is still out), The Mole (watched #2 and CMH -- liked), Babylon 5 (duh), and Seinfeld (couldn't stand it).

I'm a finnicky bitch...

Dude -- how'd you turn on the "see the page template while making a comment?" That's cool! :)

And, oh, top of the roll.

Uh... I don't know, actually. Hadn't realized it worked like this. Not bad considering I've never even modified my journal style...

1. Absolute power means just that: cancelled, current, future, made-up. Nice responses!

2. You've just helped me realize that maybe it's about time for me to decide on a future with DeDe: I think I'll keep her.

3. Over the top.

4. Thanks for the help with the cut tags. I'll have to try them myself now. For some reason I've never been able to get them to work.

5. Central City Mall is mostly dark and empty; now called the Carousel Mall. I haven't been there in years; I prefer Tyler Mall in Riverside or the Inland Empire Mall just down the street from Carousel. (And formerly called "The Orange Show Mall.")

6. Don't worry, I've never ridden Foothill, either. I've ridden LACMTA a few times, though, and still miss the old 420 (Santa Monica Blvd./Lankershim/Van Nuys)

1. I feel corrupted somehow...

2. *raises eyebrow* Oh?

4. No problem. Glad to see it's worked.

5. Yes, I refuse to call it Carousel Mall. It'll always be Central City to me. Haven't been inside it in probably 7 years... Besides, I have the Montclair Plaza, Ontario Mills, and soon Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga.

With me, the fear has changed slightly, because I realize that Jen is, at that point in my dream life, dead.

Ain't I just the most cheery person you know? *sigh*
