ATTN: Windows 98 users

Microsoft is going to be pulling support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition (aka Windows SE) as of January 16, 2004. As of that date, Microsoft will offer no new updates to the core OS or applications for this OS. That means no new versions of Media Player, Internet Explorer, Office, etc. will be available for Windows 98. Security patches will only be offered if the need is absolutely critical, like the DCOM (MS03-026) patch that resulted in MSBLAST earlier this year.

This does *NOT* include Windows Millennium Edition (Windows ME). Support for that OS expires 12/31/2004.

Wondering about your Microsoft OS? Use this link (link) to find out the info.

They're only going to support WinXP Home for another 3 years? I find this interesting since I haven't heard about any new MS OS releases in the near future. I'm sure Gates and Co. are attempting to reinvent the wheel yet again as we speak.

Microsoft is trying to get everyone on a three year lifecycle, but realistically their next OS isn't even due out until late 2004 at the earliest. Even then, Windows 2000 will be on the chopping block then, not XP. Every date on that site that hasn't yet past is up for change based on the whims of Billy G.
